Kerri-Anne Kennerley shows support to Sonia Kruger following her controversial call for a ban on Muslim immigrants in Australia.

Speaking to The Daily Mail at the 2016 Helpmann Awards in Sydney, 62-year-old Kennerley told Kruger to ‘Stay brave’.

In response to the shocking treatment Kruger has received following her comments, Kennerley said: ‘This is just appalling beyond belief.’

‘I think it’s appalling  – with freedom of speech – where people have an opinion and everybody else finds the need to slam someone’.

‘We are living in a democratic country. We do need people to have varying opinions and it should be treated with respect so therefore everybody should have their freedom of expression.’

Yesterday we shared a letter from a Muslim mum has reached out to Sonia “from one mother to another”… Inaz wrote, “I ask you to not limit your love, compassion and understanding to only people who look like you.”

Sonia is quite fearful after receiving death threats both on social media, and via Channel Nine’s offices since her comment.

  • I agree that more medical checks should be done.
I recently heard about a Muslim lady who used to keep her face covered, then swapped to a scarf around her head, now no longer wears it and is applying for Australian Citizenshp in the future. She told a friend of hers that she now calls Australia home and is adjusting to our way of life. She despises how others of her religion behave.

  • Just one example of how the Muslims aren’t integrating into our way of life and are altering ours. The Halal certified food, it’s everywhere in our supermarkets, butcher shops, take always, restaurants etc The Muslims make up less then 3% of the Australian population, yet they are dictating the food we eat. They have taken away our right to eat what WE choose so they get to eat the food THEY choose to eat. If try want Halal, why not open their own stores to supply it? Yes, halal just means it’s been blessed, except for the meat where animals are killed in not nice ways. So it shouldn’t affect us non Muslims. My point is, they are taking away our choice! That’s a key ingredient to Aussie life, the freedom of choice, and it’s being taken away from us. And do any of us know where the money the companies pay for halal certification is going? Is it funding terrorists? Can you prove it isn’t? And that’s just one example of how Muslims are changing our lives

  • The quote from the Muslim mums letter is irrelevant. Sonia wasn’t having a go at a race, she was speaking up about a religion, Muslims are in all races…..black white brown red, they’re all colours. And it is disgusting how Sonia us being treated for voicing an opinion. If we’re too scared to talk about this then there’s no way we can come up with a solution. Congratulations to those that are speaking out on Sonia’s behalf. PS from what I’ve read on social media, most of us are supporting her, not hating her. Go Sonia!

  • Sonja should not be receiving death threats even though I disagree with what she said

  • Since when has debate on a subject been a taboo in Australia – we used to be able to say what we thought and others would either agree or disagree and voice their opinions on why they agreed or disagreed.
I’ll tell you when debates stopped – when we stopped being a culture who assimilated with each other. There is NO WAY that a culture who does not agree with Christian beliefs can assimilate in this country, so therefore if we let them into the country then we are going to be fearful of them or we should not them come into the country at all.
The fight between Islam and Christian goes back decades – think Richard the Lionheart and the crusades in 1000AD – so how do you think it can be fixed now?

    • And I agree with the compassion that Kerri Anne Kennelly is showing to Sonja Kruger. Especially knowing the trauma that Kerri Anne is going through herself at the present time with her husband.

  • Mistakes happen unfortunately. This hospital will pay dearly for it. They should have double and triple checked.

  • Doesn’t sound like support to me, but compassion. Such prejudiced and racist views should not be tolerated. That’s not freedom of speech.

    • Sonia isn’t being racist! Islam is not a race, Muslims come from all races, all over the world. Sonia isn’t promoting hatred. Have you read the Koran? It does promote hate for those that don’t believe. It’s not as peaceful and loving as some like to make out. Which us quite obvious with all the killing done in the name of Allah

  • Sonia shouldn’t be receiving death threats, not an appropriate way to respond. Sonia, as a media personality also needs to think about the consequences of how she expressed her fear to the public which also was not appropriate and feeds the fear and mistreatment of Australian Muslims.

  • Well, I certainly think people should tell her she’s wrong. Politely. Without threats of violence.

  • I dont agree with their comments. I find them small minded

  • Totally agree with Kerry-Anne and Sonja, if every Australian expressed their opinion on Muslims, I bet the majority would agree with them.

    • Exactly

      • Exactly! You only gave to read the comments on the posts about this on social media. Most of them support Sonia

  • I do not agree with Sonia’s comments, but I certainly feel sorry for the backlash she’s received.
