I think many people let this new Mum down – the lactation staff, Maternal Health Nurse, etc. I don’t know how it got to the point it did without health professionals helping this Mum. I’m so sorry for her and for the experience she had. I also understand the pressure of the hospital staff to breastfeed – it is cruel, stressful, and so much more. I had to switch to formula and was thankful for the one Midwife out of an entire hospital who supported me, encouraged me, and helped me stop breastfeeding and swap to formula (all within 7 days of hospital). I am so sorry this Mum didn’t have the angel I had. It did lead to PND, as I was warned it might, that I had so longed for the option to breastfeed, only to be unable. The baby’s health is the absolute priority – ALWAYS.
