CHOICE have once again announced the products they deem to be shonky and you might be surprised by some of the popular brands.

“The Shonkys are the awards that we’d prefer not to give out — but yet again, we’ve caught out some of the world’s biggest brands with misleading advertising, dangerous products and sneaky tricks to rip off consumers,” CHOICE Chief Executive Alan Kirkland said.

Some of  this year’s shonkiest companies and products, including Viagogo, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, BMW, Mazda, Samsung and Westpac.

Since 2006, CHOICE has sought to uncover the dodgy, lowdown and often dastardly behaviour of businesses to give them the endowment that nobody wants to receive – a Shonky Award.

Westpac’s Bump Savings account has cashed in at the #Shonkys for trying to lure in expecting parents to sign up their babies to a poor value financial product before they are even born.

Investing in this account until the “bonus” kicks in and not the best rate in the market could leave you $5,000 worse off.

For the third year in a row, Samsung has squeezed out another lemon at the #Shonkys with its pricey washer/dryer that wastes water, energy and time.

The machine uses a whopping 210L of water to dry a full load of clothes. That’s equivalent to 350 bottles of water.

Another surprise product was the Cuddly Sensitive Hypoallergenic fabric softener.

  • That Westpac account looks terrible. I wonder how many people opened one for their kids. The pain erazor is atrocious. And that dryer! Maybe Samsung should just stick to mobile phones!!
