Baby’s first meals are filled with adorable moments. And with a trusty silicone baby feeding set on hand, you don’t need to worry about nasty chemicals or broken crockery getting in the way of first-food fun.

Silicone baby feeding sets are beautifully tactile and safe, but they’re also incredibly practical. Some even come with genius suction bases so they stay in place (because we all know babies love to play toss-the-bowl!). Plus, they pair beautifully with silicone bibs for a complete mealtime set that will see baby right through the early years.

To help you get set for many-a-mealtime with the right equipment, we’ve sniffed out the best silicone baby feeding sets available here in Australia.

Why is silicone best for baby feeding sets?

Step aside, plastic! Food-grade silicone (as approved by the FDA) is the material of choice for baby feeding sets nowadays and for good reason. Take a look at why silicone is preferred by more and more Australian parents:

  • It’s virtually unbreakable. Silicone is designed to bounce, not break. So you can rest assured, even if baby tosses it across the room, it won’t shatter into multiple pieces (nor will it destroy your walls!).
  • Silicone is chemical-free. Probably the biggest reason for so many parents adopting silicone for their baby’s dinnerware is that it contains no nasty chemicals. It’s BPA-free, food-safe and non-toxic.
  • Flexibility. This means being able to get to every last crumb and spoonful! At this age, so much exploring is done using little hands and mouths, so the tactile nature of silicone baby bowls is perfect.
  • Temperature resistance. Food-grade silicone is highly resistant to extreme heat and cold, so you don’t have to worry about pouring hot soup into baby’s silicone bowl (just let it cool before they tuck in!).
  • Teething gums love it. Soft enough for sore gums, there are no worries if teething tots want a little taste of their bowl, cup or spoon. Aww.
  • It’s lightweight and easy to clean. In fact, most silicone feeding sets are suitable to pop into the dishwasher, microwave, freezer and even the oven.

  • Hubby got a plum one for our boy but we probably only used it a handful of times as found it didn’t stick to the table like it was supposed to and was just annoying to use for him when he was trying to feed himself as one side was higher than the other.

  • I love a good suction silicone feeding set for our son, I just HATE how they always seem to absorb a soapy taste! I would love to know any tips or tricks to getting rid of this? We never put them in the dishwasher, and our detergent isn’t heavily fragranced. Help a mumma out!
