Four months ago my ten year old daughter Chloe went through a stage of

Rebelling, she would chuck a Tantrum, raise her voice, would not listen to anything I had to say, she even became that bad she would jump on her bed and brake the timber from the base.

I became depress I was in need for help. We both went to parent therapy classes I was told that I was letting her control my life and that when ever she was not to get her was she would start to give me a hard time until I gave in. Chloe went away for two week to Stewart house and came back a new person, she had promise me that she will be have from now on. And she did I could be happier.

  • Glad that the Stewart House has such positive impact ! The preteen years can be hard as hormones start to kick in. The biggest danger for tweens is losing the connection to parents while struggling to find their place and connect in their peer world. The biggest danger for parents is trying to parent through power instead of through relationship, thus eroding their bond and losing their influence on their child as she moves into the teen years.

  • It seems some girls start doing that as they head towards puberty; earlier than we did. It is known as Precocious……..(I can’t remember the rest of its name).
I know one of my niece’s did but we think it may have been partly because her Mother and Grandmother favoured the younger child, a son. They only way the poor girl got any attention from her Mum was if she did something naughty. The rest of the time she was basically ignored. I had to take her for a weekend and explain to her that she was getting negative attention and punishment, that was best if she just did her own thing. I started asking to have her over so I could give her the love and attention she craved and deserved.
