Hello!

Would you pay over $1000 for this seven-year-old’s birthday cake? One mum and did, and the baker who created it says it was worth every cent.

Pamela Wooten, owner of PamCakes Bakery in Texas, shared a TikTok of herself making the cake, and revealed it cost close to US$1000.

“This is a repeat client of mine, she always orders big, extravagant cakes. She only cares about the looks and doesn’t care about the cost. She usually gives me a theme and gives me full creative freedom.”

The three tiered, 12 layered Avengers themed cake included a cookies and cream cake filled with cookies and cream buttercream, chocolate ganache and crushed Oreos, a Funfetti cake filled with strawberry buttercream and a marble cake with chocolate buttercream.

Pamela says she spent hours researching the cake, and then a further 15 hours to create the sweet masterpiece.

“This includes the time spent on drafting the client contract, shopping for the ingredients and materials, baking the cakes, making fillings and buttercream, icing all the tiers, sculpting the 3D pieces and adding final decorations,” Pamela told PEOPLE.

The video quickly went viral on TikTok, with many people commenting they thought the cake was too expensive.

“I can’t stop staring at the unfinished edge of the Spiderman tier,” one person said. “If I was paying that much for a cake, then I would hate for the edges to look like that. I also was raised by a cake decorator.”

“I’d prob value this at $350,” said another.

“The final result underwhelmed me. Especially for CLOSE TO $1000.”

But other defended the price tag, saying the cost of ingredients and the hours of work all add up.

Pamela explained she has a formula for working out how much to charge for her cake creations. She adds the cost of materials and ingredients, then adds 30% for labour.

“This gives me the least amount I should charge for my cakes. I then round up that final number.”

  • The only way I would pay $1550 is if there was $1300 worth of $50 notes stuffed in there!

  • cool cake.

  • That looks amazing and I hope it tasted amazing.

  • I mean, the cake looks great, but I wouldn’t want to pay $1550 for it! There are cheaper options that look just as great!

  • It does look amazing. Too good to eat. But also, I’ve paid a couple to a few hundred for really special occasion birthday cakes that don’t get eaten. I find by the time.a cake is introduced people aren’t hungry or have had too many drinks so we’ve been left with a lot of very expensive cake.

  • Um.. OK so firstly I have to say it doesn’t look like it tastes very good. So much artificial colouring! They have a great bakery in Penrith that makes fancy cakes so I know they are quote pricey.. but damn.. that is one profitable cake! I would see it being reasonable at about $450. Theres only 3 ‘cakes’ so $100 per custom cake, $50 per decoration. Reasonable to make some profit, this would be mostly all labour cost as surely a baker that gets orders this expensive would already have flour, sugar, colouring etc?

  • I wouldn’t even pay that amount for an event!

  • Seems an extreme waste of money, but I can see how this cake would be worth so much. There’s a lot of work in it. Still, I would value it at more like $500.

  • I personally wouldn’t pay $1500 for any cake but I guess some people do. It’s a great cake and obviously a lot of work has gone into it.

  • OMG no I would never pay that for any kids cake. How ridiculous and over priced. I hate spending more than $20 on a kids cake as you don’t need to spend heaps of money for them to love their cake. Some people have far too much money to throw away.
