Woolworths has been forced to admit that its Lion King Ooshie collectibles could present a choking hazard for young children.
Supermarket giant Woolworths has been forced to admit that its current Lion King Ooshie promotion could present a dangerous choking hazard for young children.
The 24 characters, including Mufasa and Simba, have already created a stir, competing with Coles’ Little Shop 2 collectible range that launched earlier this month.
A Warning For Parents
An FAQ page on the Lion King Ooshie’s promotion page outlines the risks that the plastic figures could present.
“The Lion King Ooshies are for persons aged 5 years and older,” it reads. “Adult supervision is advised for children. Lion King Ooshies are a choking hazard and are not suitable for children under 3 years of age.”
While most parents don’t need the warning to help them identify the items as choking hazards, Woolworths’ statement is a reminder of the risks associated with these collectibles no only for small children but also pets.
Just last year, Coles was also under pressure to respond to concerns from parents about the risks of their Little Shop minis.
“All of our mini collectibles have been independently tested for compliance with Australian standards,” they said in a statement. “This testing is specifically aimed at reducing risks and demonstrating the quality and safety of materials and products.”
So as you set about completing your collectibles sets, it’s worth finding a safe place to store your minis where little hands and mouths can’t find them!
