Hello!

We are back to homeschooling since Melbourne is in lockdown again and who knows if New South Wales may follow too!!

But, I’ve learned from our last stint that the STRESS of teaching and the EXPECTATIONS of how he learns are undue pressures that I put on myself as well as him

So, this time I’m going in with a very chilled out attitude and I would like to share that with other parents out there, in case it helps!

My new attitude for NO STRESS homeschooling

ACCEPT the situation and know what we can and cannot do

Take each day as it comes, learn and teach at your own pace

UNDERSTAND that the way we teach and the way they learn is very different, so prepare to UNLEARN and learn new ways before teaching them

Take BREAKS when needed to do FUN things in between

Most of all, REMEMBER…

This situation is TEMPORARY

These few days of remote learning DO NOT decide their academic future

They are watching and learning more than we think like PATIENCE, EMPATHY and LOVE in the way we teach and behave with them

No matter what, WE WILL BE FINE!

Hope this helps! Take it easy on yourself and wish you all the best!

  • Good to have a positive attitude. I would say to all still home schooling out there to take it totally relaxed, kids can learn from everything and anything you do, be it gardening cooking cleaning, ordering online food, make it as much fun and hands on possible :)

  • What a positive attitude to have and I’m sure that will show when you have to do the teaching. They have brilliant minds and soak up a lot more than we think they do. I’m lucky that I don’t have to go through this situation. Wish all the parents happy thoughts while educating their children

  • We are waiting to go back to remote learning and believe it will happen any day. I have just started to get my very anxious daughter back into school. She did really well at learning at home.

  • I feel the same as you. I went through lot of stress and hard to manage the day because of homeschooling last term.May be this is because it was hard to keep them on going for learning at home.I have 3 kids. It was really tough time for me to look everyone’s work what they are doing. My son always like to skip the home works. This time i feel they also understand the situation prepared more what should they need to do.

  • Children have managed to get good schooling before so will again. It all depends on how much the child wants to learn, I have found. If you want to do something then you’ll succeed.

  • If NSW goes back to lockdown for schools then I think everyone will be adjusting their expectations again and won’t be struggling as much like last time.

  • We are not in lockdown at the moment but I didn’t mind homeschooling. It was actually a bit convenient for me as we were homeschooling in March I just had a bub so it was nice not doing the school run

  • I would hate the thought ! My youngest has Down Syndrome and home schooling her was rather intense, not to speak about my 10yr who has RAD, very severe kleptomania and now also diagnosed with conduct disorder. I can barely survive the thought, lol !

  • whatever it takes to avoid this virus is a winner. Home schooling is temporary and hopefully all will be back to normal sooner than later.

  • Last time I kept reminding myself of how much time I missed in primary school, and how I was just fine later on anyway. Primary kids in particular have lots of time to catch up.
