  • Perfect for entertaining

I love our pasta maker and so do the family and the extended family. I have to say that it has made entertaining a breeze as everyone can socialise and chat while the pasta is being made for lunch and dinner. Entertaining is actually pretty cheap too and definitely cheaper than an Italian restaurant.

  • Why I gave 5 STARS!!!

I would hands down recommend the Philips Pasta and Noodle Maker to others!!! So I really enjoy fresh pasta but with 3 little munchkins in toe now I don’t really have the time to make it.. the old fashion way. A few of my friends have “other” pasta making machines and I have asked them to show me how there’s work. Of course I had to have a taste test as well. HANDS DOWN the Philips machine is quicker, easier to operate and the taste of the pasta far out accomplishes the “others”. I have even convinced one of my friends to get rid of their machine and buy the Philips brand!

The Philips Pasta & Noodle Maker is quicker than expected to use.. oh yes it is! So I did a time test..
    – 2 minutes to get out machine, all ingredients, plug in and place ingredients into the machine
    – 15 minutes for all pasta to be made, cut and drying on a pasta rack
    – 12 minutes to wash and set to air dry
    – I min and 30 sec to pack up and put away (after drying but who stands there and watches it dry right… )
    TOTAL – 30.5 minutes
Those of you who have ever made fresh pasta know that you would barely be done needing the dough let alone be cleaned up and packed away!

The Philips Pasta & Noodle Maker is suitable for lots of recipes.. Of course, I was even able to cater for family members with food allergies.. when I told them we were having fresh pasta they gave me the look of “Ok and what am I getting to eat”. The response from family was “Where did you buy it and exactly what is in it”. I was able to show them the recipe, and even prepared it right in front of them. What can I say it was a dinner the whole family was involved in!

The Philips Pasta & Noodle Maker brings back the joy of cooking at a whole new level!!! All the family is involved and for our 10 year wedding anniversary my darling husband even pulled out machine and made dinner with the kids all by themselves.
I love the fact the whole family is involved and we are improving our quality of eating by being able to hide lots of veggies from the kids and even making some fabulous pasta salads to have as a side dish.

I honestly swear by the Philips Pasta and Noodle maker, I was so sceptical that it was going to be hard, too time consuming and really just a pain to have in our kitchen. It has become one of the family bringing us all together at meal time, thank you from a very happy mummy and her family!

  • Making life easy

Well it has happened…. I managed to make a least 2 pasta dishes a week using my Phillips Pasta and Noodle maker.

It is so easy and so much fun for the kids to get involved. The kids take turns in measuring everything out and Master 5 has even mastered cracking eggs! Now if little Miss 2 and Master 1 could crack eggs without getting shells into it, I would be onto a real winner!

This miracle maker machine not only churns out pasta at lightening speed but is easy to clean up afterwards. Just as an added bonus it all packs away compactly and conveniently…

I am very happy to say that I finally after many years look forward to getting in the kitchen with new little friend the Phillips Pasta and Noodle maker!

  • To feed a small army!

We had a surprise visit at our house last night from another family – that meant 11 mouths to feed! While I would normally be uninspired, and horrified by this situation, I had a lightbulb moment, and decided to make fresh pasta for all of us. A quick sauce using passata, garlic and fresh basil from the garden, and we had a wonderful evening. Thanks Phillips and MoM for the opportunity to give this fantastic pasta maker a ‘whirl’!

  • MIGHTY MEATBALLS AND PASTA MADE IN THE PHILIPS PASTA AND NOODLE MAKER

I was needing a quick mid week recipe for my boys. Having the Philips Pasta and Noodle Maker on hand the problem was solved. As I got onto making the tomato sauce and meatballs, my 2 sons aged 8 and 10 got onto making the pasta. The machine is so easy to use, they love it.
The beauty of this pasta is that all components can be frozen. Extra meat balls and tomato sauce and be frozen for another meal.
I did find the pasta a little firm to the bite, so I recommend cooking it a little longer.

  • Philips Pasta Maker makes an awesome lasagne!!!

Tonight I decided to use my Philips Pasta Maker to make a Béchamel Lasagne. I used the wide disc to make the sheets. From previous experience, after the pasta was made, I precooked the sheets for about 10 minutes in boiling water before putting the lasagna together and cooking it in the oven.
Pasta from the Philips machine I have found to be a little firm to eat. I have made cannelloni before and the family commented that the pasta was a bit thick and firm after cooking. Today I found that by pre boiling the sheets of pasta the lasagna turned out fantastic. I will definitely do this again in the future.

  • All Sorts of Pasta!!

I was so surprised when I open this machine to find not only does it do penne style and spaghetti/noodles but it also does sheets of pasta. So I used an old favourite recipe of ravioli and replace the usual wonton sheets with this freshly made pasta. The extrusion process meant that I could cut the sheets to the exact size I wanted as they came out and I could start filled them straight away.
They were so fresh and tasty and we can’t wait to make more and try the sheets for lasagne.

  • That really exciting moment... when the pasta starts being extruded!!!

Tonight was a quick, basic pasta night. We made a basic durum spaghetti, which is such a quick and easy process. While the pasta was mixing in the chamber, I quickly made a basil pesto. Including cooking time, a completely homemade, packet-free meal was made in about 20 minutes. A winner with hubby, Miss 8, Mr 10, and being so quick and easy – Mummy!!

  • quick and easy to use

we made pasta and meatballs in a tomato based sauce. The leftover pasta was added to bacon and made in a garlic sauce. By the time the water in the saucepan has boiled the pasta is made and takes minutes to cook. It has become a Sunday ritual with the family all around helping to cook. It’s great to spend that time together.

  • quick and easy to use, makes pasta very fast

After seeing the pasta maker on this site I had to get one. It is fantastic. We make pasta every Sunday and it makes enough for us to have for dinner the next night. Easy to use and quick to make the pasta. Clean up is fine we put the attachment in the freezer for ease to get the little pieces of dough out then wash up. A definite thumbs up and highly recommend it.

  • What a versatile and quick appliance!

Ramen! So easy to make at home! Way quicker and cheaper than calling your local Japanese restaurant, and using pantry ingredients too! This required the ramen attachment, but was a cinch to make. Fun for all of the family to make and eat together, and simple to personalise for fussy eaters and people with allergies.

I made penne with my Hospitality class to show them how amazing simple food was. The students were so excited to see an everyday product being made in front of them! • Dessert pasta adventures

Last night I had my first attempt at making a chocolate dessert pasta. I had been wanting to do it since I received the machine, but couldn’t quite work out what the dish would be. Inspired by a bowl of fresh oranges, I decided that it would have to be the classic flavour combination of chocolate and orange – or jaffa!

Using the same basic principles for making regular pasta, I adapted the recipe to include cocoa and for sweetness, some icing sugar. I also used 2 eggs instead of and egg and water to give it a little extra richness. I made a ravioli, so used the lasagne disc setting. The pasta came out beautifully and made several large sheets for my ravioli. I was careful to lay the sheets between damp paper towel so they didn’t dry out in the meantime.

I made a ricotta, white chocolate and orange filling and assembled my ravioli. This was a bit trickier than I first thought – I have never even made normal ravioli, so was flying a little blind. Plus I had a whingy, teething toddle attached to my leg or hip the whole time, so it wasn’t the most pleasant experience! Anyway, I managed to get a few that looked ok and held together well. They cooked up well and I served them with thick cream and fresh orange segments. I was quite happy with the taste of the pasta. It wasn’t overly sweet, but had a definite chocolate flavour. Make sure you use a good quality cocoa if you’re going to attempt this as I think it will make a difference. I have posted my recipe if you’re interested, and I think next time I’d make either an orange syrup/sauce or a dark chocolate orange fudge sauce (will have to wait for a time when I don’t have the clingy toddler!).

Overall, still very impressed with what this machine can do, and how it makes you think up all the creative dishes you can make!

  • A versatile well designed machine

I have really enjoyed being part of the review team for the Philips Pasta and Noodle maker. Having had it for a good month now I can really give you a good overview of the machine, however in many ways I have only scratched the surface of experimentation. Hopefully I have managed to answer a good deal of questions over the last few weeks.

I just wanted to start by saying I believe this machine is more versatile than Philips gives it credit for. Primarily it can make Noodles and Pasta however when you step back it is a machine that mixes dough and then extrudes it. We have made corn chips and can make wheat crackers. I also have a feeling that you could extrude Churros through the penne disk without the center part of the disk – giving you attractive logs to cook (this is just me thinking aloud). You also have a massive amount of options when it comes to the contents of the dough – who said pasta had to be plain wheat flour?

I feel that more gluten free, alternative recipes would be a great inclusion to the recipe book. I have posted both a corn chip recipe and gluten free pasta recipe which took a bit of work to get right – this can be time consuming and frustrating. However, once the recipe exists the long term benefits of those recipes are well worth it – they are quick, simple and rewarding to make. I was thankful to stumble across the pubmed article ‘Functional Properties of gluten-free pasta produced from amaranth, quinoa and buckwheat’. Feel the gluten intolerant love? There needed to be a simple egg-free gluten-free recipe out there. Using a base recipe or idea and modifying it from there is a good start. As a general rule of thumb the machine is rewarding and a positive experience especially if you are following a recipe.

I would have liked to see the inclusion of a simple pasta drying stand – ideally that stores in the draw, however we cannot be too picky and a chopping board upright works just fine! The pieces are not dish washable which is sad (though I have not tried) but I can say that my machine could be mistaken for a machine used once as it has remained very clean. It also continues to be easy to clean –there are very few places where the dough can get stuck. The cleaning tool is handy and I love that it also doubles as the cutter when the dough is extruding. I feel that the design team should get a pat on the back! Being hand washable makes a world of difference and air drying remains the easiest way to dry it. I covered how we store the machine in the last two posts (with photos), and talked about keeping the measuring cups in the barrel with the lid ajar for travel – although you can do this at home too.

I would like to say we have ventured into dumpling making and noodles – but we did not get a chance. Dumplings are in our near future but I don’t like to make them for large dinner parties as they are fiddly to fold. We don’t cook a lot of noodle recipes but now it is getting cooler we will probably do a few more. I love the fettuccini disk, but find we use all but the penne regularly as the others are probably simpler – let’s talk about being super lazy here and cutting every 30 seconds instead of every 5 – its more preference really.

In my mind making noodles or pasta from scratch using this machine does not add any real time to dinner prep. The time it takes to open a packet after you find the scissors and then put the pasta in the water doesn’t really change much to making the pasta from scratch – plus then everyone feels you love them because you put all that effort in making pasta from scratch (and you don’t even have to tell them it took you all of 10 minutes if you don’t want too). All the people we have fed the pasta too notice the difference, and we have not had packet pasta since because it really does not compare to additive free, fresh pasta.

My biggest question was – is it worth the cost price? It is a pricier machine, however I feel it is of a reasonable price point when you look at the other pasta makers on the market from well-known brands (often automated hand cranks). Philips is a known and trusted brand – other pasta maker machines that work like this one are often by brands that are not well known. You won’t be buying pasta again, because you can easily make whatever is on the market shelves (except dinosaur shapes, this makes me slightly sad). I don’t give financial advice, so I am just going to remind you it is almost tax back time. Moving on, this is a great machine and worth having. We have used it a lot and it is not going to retire to the back of the cupboard now I don’t ‘have’ to write review. We will continue to use it a lot, we will continue to experiment. Thank you Mouths of Mums and Philips for this opportunity!

  • Storage of the Pasta Maker - part 2

I just posted a view of where we keep the Pasta maker when not in use – so I wanted to follow that up with a photo of it about to be used on the bench – as you can see we don’t have a lot of space for things to live out (The Kitchenaid was a 21st birthday present so it gets special treatment). It works quite well in a small kitchen and keeps a low profile which is appreciated. It looks super new and modern against that ‘vintage/retro’ red bench top (at least that is what I am telling myself – I personally am not fond of the colour). I will get on and post a final wrap up review either tonight or tomorrow and cover anything I feel I have missed. Hopefully you will have a good idea of what this machine can do and how it works – I have also posted a simple egg free gluten free pasta recipe in the dinner section and my corn chip recipe can be found at https://mouthsofmums.com.au/recipe/homemade-corn-chips-with-the-philips-pasta-and-noodle-maker/

  • Storage of the Pasta Maker

I just wanted to quickly show you where we store out machine – we don’t have a lot of space on the bench so it lives just under the bench and comes out as needed. We have found that it is not too heavy to lift and lives quite compactly without taking up a lot of room (considering we only keep what we use, and have often used things at the front you can get an idea of how often the machine is used!)

  • Penne Magic

My kids (11,13,15) and I have had a lot of fun with the Philips Pasta and Noodle Maker. It’s been so easy for them to make pasta and noodles from start to finish without much help from mum. They have taken a real interest in cooking dinner and making dishes that use this fabulous machine. They have experimented with different shapes and flavours. We tried making long penne with great results. My son (15) made tomato flavoured tagliatelle using tomato paste. The pasta had a lovely hint of tomato and added that bit of interest to the carbonara sauce he also made. Making the double quantity has been a good serving size for a family of five. Even the clean up has been getting easier each time we have used the machine. It has been a real winner and in our household.
The pasta and noodles have a soft texture and we have been cooking them as soon as they are made. They cook so quickly ( about 3 minutes).

  • Presto Pesto Pasta!

This week we tried flavouring pasta with tomato paste. It turned out really well and gave the pasta a lovely subtle tomato flavour. My daughter(11) has had fun using the machine and making dinner. This week she made the tomato penne with pesto chicken, baby spinach and cherry tomatoes. We have had no problems whilst making the pasta, each time producing a successful product. The cleaning of the pasta machine is generally quite easy but the penne extruding component can be a little time consuming to get completely clean even if using the instructions. Freezing the component does help but is still fiddly to clean properly.

  • The perfect invention for a hungry family

I have been using the Philips Pasta and Noodle Maker regularly and the only disc that comes with the machine that I haven’t tried is the lasagna disc. My mother in law always uses egg in her homemade lasagna and says that using just flour and water won’t keep the pasta sheet together when cooked in boiling water. I tend to prove her wrong. This maker is amazing.

  • Magic Pasta

Every time I switch this machine on I feel like saying ‘abracadabra’. It makes cooking freshly made pasta seem like magic. It takes less time to make the pasta than it does to boil the water for cooking it and each time it has been the perfect result.
This machine is compact and incredibly sturdy and everything I need to use with it packs neatly into the machine so the bits and pieces don’t get lost in my already overloaded kitchen drawers. Everything is all there when I am ready to make fresh pasta.
Cleaning up was also easy. I followed the advice in the booklet and placed the discs in the freezer for a few hours and they were very easy to clean after that. The rest of the machine was also a breeze to clean and wipe down.
It’s lovely to no longer need to buy pre made pasta. It’s so easy to cook from scratch and it really has increased the flavours of our meals.
I would highly recommend this machine, it’s a great addition to my kitchen and it’s so easy that even the kids can use it.

  • Some days you just need Mexican!

I don’t know if you have seen those Old El Paso advertisements on TV where the little girl comes up with a new idea (ie Stand ’n Stuff) and the whole village goes crazy. I kind of felt like that girl tonight; ok, it may not have been the entire village but it was my village – going crazy. Because people it’s been the kind of weather that has made me think about Movies and Blankets… and Nachos. Some days Italian and Asian recipes just don’t kick it like Mexican recipes do.

Let me break it down people. That Philips Noodle and Pasta maker I am reviewing makes corn chips too. Corn Chips! Serious oversight by the Philips people, I know. Plus they are really easy to make – no more trying to roll the dough to the same thickness all over. Normally the recipe reads easy then it gets all complicated when you try (just like pasta really). Nope, no more!

Firstly, Polenta and Masa Harina are not the same thing and you cannot chip with Polenta (though you can make good cakes). I like Bob’s Red Mill brand as it is Gluten Free but there are others – fortunately these days most health food stores stock it so it is not impossible to hunt down. You can also make Tortillas from it.

Corn Chips are a basic mixture of Masa Harina, salt and water. You use the machine as you would normally with the adjusted amount of water (recipe coming soon to the dinner section) and extrude through the lasagna sheet disk. With a sharp knife you cut the flat sheets into chip shapes (rectangles which you then halve corner to corner). Now you can cook them in the oven but for a flat chip you want to use a sandwich press (actually you can cook bacon and hash browns and a whole lot of things on those presses). They cook in a few minutes and with an egg flip you pop them into the bowl and get the next load on. I don’t recommend cutting them after they are cooked because they break easily. It is actually way faster than you would think. The results are good too. I am going to make another batch and post the recipe ASAP. That means another Mexican night at our house all in the name of recipe testing!

I really wanted to share this with you guys because it is amazing, and it just shows how versatile the machine can be if you think outside the box. I do however wish there was more recipes with alternative flours. As each type of flour absorbs a different amount of liquid it is not as simple as just 1-to-1 substituting. You have to have a fair amount of knowledge around what the flours work like. As an example coconut flour absorbs a lot of water and can make things really dry if you are not careful. The quinoa flour worked reasonably well. Chia egg won’t work as an egg substitute; however I have read that a flax egg may be the gluten free vegans solution. I am also still voting on Amaranth flour as a good binding agent if a flax egg doesn’t work. There is a lot there so I am really hoping that more comes of it.

As for cleaning the machine, I just wanted to let you know that if you or your friend were to, say, leave the Philips Pasta and Noodle Maker machine overnight and not clean it till the next day I have it on record, from a friend, that it will still clean with as much ease as if you cleaned it after use. You can also soak the disks for a few minutes to loosen any extra dough stuck in the disks. That is faster than freezing the disks (as recommended); one of the positives of being plastic. I personally find all the dough comes out with minimal effort. Sometimes I use a toothpick, but generally the provided tool works just fine (I can be a bit pedantic with wanting things clean).

Hopefully you find this review amazing (corn chips) and informative. I will take some photos of where I am storing the machine in our small kitchen for the next review. It is under the bench as I find it is not too heavy. We also used to have a pasta maker that lived in the cupboard so I fished it out and did a rearrange.

  • Easy & quick. Tastes great!

Came home tonight, exhausted. Kids were in a rotten mood. Decided to make pasta with a salami and tomato sauce. Suddenly kids are happy again because they know this means they get to make the pasta. So easy and we get a great tasting meal in under 20minutes – and I know exactly what is in their meal.

  • Stylish, compact and quick

As the weeks go by this little machine has become a favourite. It lives on my bench top, although it’s light enough to be placed in the cupboard. My son wanted pasta tonight and asked for spaghetti. I kid you not that I made 500g, cooked it, made a simple sauce and dinner was served in 30 minutes.

  • Coloured pasta fun!

We have been absolutely loving and having a ball with our Phillips Pasta Maker. The entire family has absolutely loved using the Phillips Pasta Maker to create and make lots of delicious and tasty pasta dishes. It is such a simple and easy machine for the whole family to use and has become a favourite thing for us to do as a family. We have pasta making nights and we especially love creating interesting and different pasta. The kids love playing with different coloured pasta and it certainly does look interesting and different on the plate. All of the pasta regardless of colour gets eaten! 😉

  • The only appliance we fight over

I made the mistake of thinking it would be a great way to test our new Philips Pasta and Noodle Maker by teaching my mostly-competent-in-the-kitchen husband how to use my shiny new toy. I walked him through the process when he was making Ragu the other night and now he won’t leave my machine alone. His meals are now all planned around creating a noodle dish and we’re practically fighting each other off to get to use it.
I know I’ve said it before but I just can’t get over how easy this is to use.
