This cheap and easy pasta recipe has gone viral and it uses a very familiar Aussie ingredient…

With just four ingredients, and costing the same as a large cup of coffee, this pasta recipe created by Chantelle Ellem from Fat Mum Slim is taking the internet by storm. While it may not be the most nutritious meal, the recipe is the perfect quick weeknight dinner for those evenings when you’ve got three after-school activities, a sick hubby and hungry kids who just need to be fed.

Cheap and Delicious

The recipe went viral after being shared by Woolworths, kidspot.com.au reports, and was praised for its simplicity, showing Mums that it’s ok to cheat every once in a while – no one can serve up a gourmet dinner every night unless they’re superhuman!

While you could add your own selection of veggies to up the nutritional value of the recipe, the only ingredients you really need to make this taste sensation are spaghetti, butter, vegemite and some grated parmesan. Yep, that’s it. Just four ingredients that will please even the fussiest of eaters. Sounds like a perfect hump day dinner to us!

Celebrate The Little Victories

Chantelle says she was inspired to share the recipe as it proved a winner with her own daughter. “I have one daughter who isn’t a great eater and I stress myself out every day trying to get veggies into her. I consider it a big win to know that she ate.” Chantelle also believes that switching out more expensive meals for significantly cheaper options now and again allows families to save money, particularly around Christmas time. Who doesn’t love saving a little on groceries from time to time?

  • Okayyyy…. I tried the Vegemite version for my son today… Had no clue he would like it… Lol. Tick tick.

  • My cheapo dinner is pesto pasta… Yum yum. This looks nice too and very different.

  • I’ve made this and its yum, must have treat

  • Tempted to make it for a lunch for my daughter as a one off to see if she enjoys it

  • My go to cheap and easy dinner is tuna pasta!

I just get a big tin of tuna, pasta, pasta sauce (and I add baked beans to add a bit of sweetness and beans. And it’s done! Could add some cheese on top too.

  • Thinking more of a snack food as prefer some veggies in my meals. Maybe tomato sauce , might have less salt.

  • I cannot eat cooked vegemite – the rest sounds great!

  • It would be interesting to try!

  • Can’t really comment to one tries it but it does look interesting and would be good for a quick weekend meal.

  • Oh no. I don’t like Vegemite. I prefer pasta with pesto sauce. You can always add some cherry tomatoes and/or some bocconcini of mozzarella.

    • I like your thinking – I like to add to and layer a pasta dish with flavours and with vegetables and cheeses.

  • Tried it. Most definitely needs more ingredients to keep my interested

  • Hmmm, Vegemite sounds very salty. But I am always up for trying new things once. I would give this a go just to appease my curiosity.

  • Not a recipe that jumps out at me. I like my pasta dishes to be more substantial and to have richer flavours.

  • Not the type of recipe I set on the table. I think a good amount of daily veggies is essential, this has none.

  • The thought of eating a sta tossed through butter doesn’t sit right for me personally . I just feel my arteries yelling at me lol
