When you’re juggling the needs of a newborn, it’s hard to find time to get to the supermarket, let alone cook healthy meals. But the good news is that postpartum meal delivery services are here to help!

Postpartum meal delivery services are the answer to fast, efficient meals for time-poor and exhausted mums. Some arrive at front doors cooked and ready to nourish recovering bodies, while others arrive as a meal kit with everything mums need to cook meals themselves. There are some that help with post-pregnancy weight loss, others that feed the whole family and many that cater to allergies, intolerances and dietary choices. And ANY of them make a very welcome gift for a new parent!

Basically, whatever your needs as a new mum, there’s a meal delivery service out there to help you through the postpartum stage. And just think – by spending less time tackling supermarket trips with the pram, you get more time to snuggle your delicious new baby.  It doesn’t get better than that.

Types Of Postpartum Meal Delivery Services

New mums have two types of meal delivery services at their disposal in Australia: ready-made meals and meal kits. Let’s take a closer look at each:

Ready-made meals are the quickest and easiest way to nourish your overtired postpartum body – and the rest of the family if need be. Meals arrive already cooked and individually packaged, ready for you to simply heat and enjoy, or pop in the freezer for another time. These services also cater for new mums who are on special diets and/or trying to lose some unwanted pregnancy weight.

Meal kits include ingredients and recipe cards for cooking delicious, nutritious meals yourself – no supermarket required! These are fantastic for adding variety to a boring dinner routine, but you do have to prepare them, which can be tiresome if you’re unwell and juggling a newborn.

Most meal delivery services will obviously work out to be more expensive than if you shopped for the ingredients and cooked it yourself. But sometimes, your physical and mental health is more important and removing the burden of cooking can be priceless.

And don’t forget, if you’ve got other tiny mouths to feed besides your newborn’s, check out our list of baby food home delivery services that include everything from purees to chunky toddler meals!

Marley Spoon

Marley Spoon meal delivery service

Marley Spoon is one of the most popular meal delivery services in Australia. This is a super-slick, professional organisation supported by a fantastic website and awesome customer service. And best of all, it creates wholesome food that the entire family can enjoy.

It’s very simple to order – you just need to choose which meals you would like to prepare from an extensive range of recipes. You then receive a Marley Spoon box delivered to your doorstep, packed with all the ingredients and instructions to prepare the meals that you picked.

All ingredients come measured so there is zero waste. The quality of the ingredients is also the very best – generally far better than the products I would normally pick when I shop.

Following the recipe is really easy – with simple instructions and clear photos to illustrate each step. We felt that Marley Spoon helped us get out of our boring meal rut and introduced us to flavours and tastes that we wouldn’t normally eat.

The only downer is that you still need to prepare and cook the meal – which can be a bit of a hassle if you’re tired or run off your feet.

Delivery Areas: Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Wollongong, Newcastle and the NSW Central Coast.

These recipes are generally more simple and less exotic than some of the other meal delivery services, which is great if you’ve got fussy kids. They have many loyal customers who love the taste of their meals.

Delivery areas: Multiple areas in South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

Dinnerly

Dinnerly meal delivery service

This ‘new kid on the block’ is a fantastic budget-friendly meal delivery service for families with multiple mouths to feed. You still purchase a weekly subscription – but the meals are priced from only $5.49 a serve.

The difference comes from the complexity of the dishes. While the quality of the ingredients is just as good as Marley Spoon’s the meals are much simpler. Plus you get digital recipes rather than recipe cards, less packaging and less choice of meals.

We love that the dishes are more reflective of the kind of food we would normally cook – so much less fussy. Think stir-fries, yummy tacos, macaroni and stews. All the meals are comforting and always tasty.

Delivery areas: Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Wollongong, Newcastle, the greater Perth region, Darwin and NSW’s Central Coast. More areas coming soon!

  • Great idea for new mums who don’t have the extra help.

  • What a fabulous idea! I didn’t know this service existed!

    Reply

  • So many options! My sil has ordered some dietlicious, but the menu didn’t appeal to me. Before bub came I had a freezer stacked with homemade meals portioned out. They are almost gone, so I’ve started stocking back up when I can steal an hour away from the baby. Makes a huge difference to have a good dinner at the end of the day, and I’m a bit of a control freak to buy ready made meal plans.

  • Much preferred to have something in my freezer in case I needed it, but with many hungry mouths to feed, it was far cheaper and tastier to cook myself than have pre-prepared meals being purchased. Todays modern mothers must have a lot more money than my humble household used to have.

  • That’s such a great idea! I prepared and froze meals to prepare for after.

  • I got a voucher from my hospital for the dinner ladies, it would great to have prep meals that just needed to be put in the oven and cooked (even hubby can do that with only minor instruction). I also get dinnerly every fortnight, its the only meal kit delivery service with the least packaging, I am hoping to do my own meal planning and shopping list eventually, but its just not happening yet, so aiming to have it sorted by christmas this year. Until then I save all my favourite recipes so i have them at hand when I need them.
