Weekends are the perfect time to try out a new recipe with your family. These recipes cover a range of meals, so whether your household is following an unrestricted, gluten-free or vegan diet, there will be something for everyone!

Here are 10 recipes that are sure to delight.

Breakfast

Arguably the most important meal of the day – these breakfast dishes will start your morning off right.

Breakfast Potato Volcanoes

Any recipe with the word volcano in the title is sure to be explosive fun for the whole family. This breakfast potato volcano combines a hearty potato with a delicious egg and cheese filling. Wrapped in bacon, you’ll pop these tasty morsels into the oven at 200C, and they’ll be ready to devour in only 45 minutes.

Remember to let them cool before serving because once they’re on the plate, it’s likely they’ll disappear in a matter of minutes.

Vegan Blueberry Pancakes

Pancakes are an iconic family weekend breakfast food, and this vegan blueberry recipe is sure to live up to anyone’s high expectations. Miraculously, using almond milk, a flax egg and sprouted spelt flour, you’ll be able to create that fluffy texture everyone knows and loves. Make this recipe gluten-friendly by substituting in gluten-free flour and xantham gum.

Remember to keep mixing to a minimum and let the batter rest before cooking. Top with extra blueberries and maple syrup for a sweet and acidic finish.

Brunch

Weekends are for sleeping in and enjoying a filling brunch that will keep you energised throughout the day.

Classic Chicken and Waffles

Who says you can’t enjoy breakfast and lunch simultaneously? This American-style recipe combines a quintessential breakfast food with a lunchtime favorite. The result is pure magic.

To keep things sweet, top the meal off with maple syrup. If you’re looking for something more savoury, add hot sauce or your favourite condiment. Making each component from scratch elevates the entire experience.

Egg Dish

This savoury breakfast casserole is the perfect combination of gooey cheese, delicious sausage soft eggs. It takes only 75 minutes to prepare and bake before it’s golden brown and ready to eat. You’ll feel full and energised to take on the day – or comfortable enough to take a mid-day nap!

Try mixing it up by adding capsicum and onions to this versatile dish.

BBQ Jackfruit Sandwiches

Say hello to saucy vegan barbeque. These unsuspecting jackfruit sandwiches will keep you coming back for more. The recipe calls for a BBQ seasoning made from brown sugar, chilli powder and garlic – providing the perfect balance of sweet and spicy.

It’s possible to whip this meal together in 30 minutes, so there’s no need to keep your hungry kids waiting.

Dinner

Dinner is the perfect time to sit down as a family and enjoy pleasant conversation. Here are three recipes that will inspire those weekend moments.

Sunday Roast Beef and Gravy

Is there anything more iconic than eating a roast for Sunday dinner? This tasty recipe pairs a lightly seasoned beef roast with a red-wine gravy reduction. Complement the dish with mashed potatoes and green beans for a well-balanced meal.

Queso Mac and Cheese

Give classic mac and cheese a zesty twist with this queso recipe. It’s guaranteed to leave you feeling full, cosy and just a tad spicy. The canned green chillies and chilli powder provide a pleasant heat to the dish, but you can easily omit them to make it spice-free.

While the recipe calls for elbow macaroni, you can choose your favourite noodle variety without compromising the flavor.

Hearty Vegetable Lasagna

If you love Italian food, this hearty vegetable lasagna may become your favorite recipe of the season. Packed with onions, peppers and mushrooms, this vegetarian-friendly lasagna is a star without the meat.

Lasagna is the perfect meal to prepare with children because they love layering the ingredients. They’ll have so much fun helping you in the kitchen that they’ll forget all the veggies they’re eating!

Dessert

Everyone loves a happy ending, and these desserts provide the perfect level of sweetness to complete any meal.

Mocha Self-Saucing Pudding

Try not to drool as you create this mouthwatering dish. If coffee and chocolate are your two favourite flavours, then this recipe is for you. This dessert is a twist on the traditional lava cake, and it pairs perfectly with ice cream.

It takes approximately 40 minutes to bake, so place it in the oven during dinner so that they’re ready on time.

It’s the weekend, so you’ll need all of the energy you can get to keep up with your kiddos and go on family adventures. Check out these no-bake oatmeal energy balls, which are vegan and gluten-free. They provide the perfect amount of nuttiness and sweetness that will have you reaching for more.

Make these small bites in advance to enjoy on the weekend, during the week or in months to come. They’ll last for two weeks in the fridge or two months in the freezer.
