Sometimes a simple life frustration can lead to something much bigger – such as a whole new business … and even finding your life partner.

We talk to three parents who developed successful businesses in the healthy living sphere when life presented them lemons.

All three businesses will be showcasing to retailers at the upcoming Naturally Good 2023 event at Sydney’s ICC from June 5-6 which features a range of healthy living products annually including the latest in natural and organic food, beverages, cosmetics and homewares.

A bad juice changed my life

Allie Szwarcberg-Poch’s life changed one morning when she bought a bad juice from a supermarket.

“It was really ordinary and sparked an ‘I could do this better’ idea,” she says. “I purchased a small cold press juicer and made some juices for my office. The onsite café manager said he’d try selling some and they sold out by 10am the same day. I made more and took them to the farmers’ market in Marrickville, Sydney. To my surprise, I sold out within hours and the best surprise was meeting my now husband, Braian, in the stall next to me! Within weeks we were partners in life and business and our business Allie’s Cold Pressed Juices was born. We now have two kids and it’s all thanks to juice!”

Allie’s Cold Pressed Juices now produces premium juice made 100 per cent from Australian fruits and veggies, cold-pressed to preserve vitamins and minerals with delicious flavours including Sublime Pine, Gingered Apple and Watermelon.

I couldn’t find a healthy breakfast cereal for my kids

Dad Gary Sharman finally got fed up with sugary cereal for his family which sparked the idea for Byron Bay Muesli.

“Our story began with the desire to create a healthier breakfast cereal alternative for our whole family to enjoy. We believe that a healthy and delicious breakfast is the best start to an active day. We spent hours in the kitchen mixing, testing and tasting to come up with our amazing recipes. Byron Bay Muesli started in a garage in Bangalow and we now produce our amazing range of muesli and granolas in our state-of-the-art factory located in Byron Bay.”

Check out their range of muesli and granola minus the nasties and preservatives featuring mixes such as Coconut, Cranberry & Apple; Almond and Hempseed; and Almond, Fig and Pear.

I wanted my kids to drink age-appropriate tea

Tired of watering down tea formulated for adults for her tea curious kids, one day Tegan Carakitsos decided to come up with a tea just for children which resulted in Tiny Tea.

“As a mum, I knew that finding a healthy, nutritious, low-sugar drink for kids can be harder than finding their overdue library book. Finally, I decided to fill that giant-tea-cup sized gap in the market with a drink I could trust and knew exactly what was in it – because I had made it! I called on the most scrupulous, boldly honest and fussy taste-testers I could find [my children] and after some serious sipping and slurping finally settled on four zingy super scrumptious flavours.”

Divine flavours in the range include Lia’s Lovely Lemonade; Fiona’s Fruity Fairy Floss and Andi’s Apple Pie.
